I found the beams and shadows from the Oaks Hotel very interesting and a painting that is a little bit different from the Post Office ones you usually see around Ojai.

Chief Peak looms over the Ojai Valley in the shadows of the more famous Topa Topa Mountain. The pond is in the middle of the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy Meadow.

Lockwood Valley is located over the Los Padres Forest Mountains heading north out of Ojai California. The wild flowers and poppies in the foreground are accented by the burnt trees in the background.

There were beautiful colors in the Ventura River Bottom in 2010. I was attracted to the contrasting oranges against the blue distant Whiteledge Peak.

CONSERVANCY IN NOVEMBER

This painting is a view looking down river toward Ventura. By November the green grass was high and the colors were intense with the shadows deep in the short afternoon sun.

This started out as a plien air painting. While I was painting the horse and rider went by and the contrast of the horse against the shadows amazed me so I grabed my camera and captured the scene.

I was driving north one evening when I appreciated the shadows on the mountains. I wondered what the view would be like at the swimming hole. The next evening I went and this is what I saw. It is unussual for water to be in the swimming hole at the end of July.
